New York, New York

I was just in NYC for work for about a week. Really it was Wednesday, Thurs, Fri. - then Monday PM - Thursday AM. We had 4 shoot days, 1x12 hr, 3x 13 hr. , but we got so much done!

View through CT to NYC

I got to the studio on Wednesday 1/23 and saw this! So excited to learn MJ Fox is filming at Silvercup starting in March. I love him and would LOVE to meet him!

Typically at a shoot we are in the client area set up on leather couches. There were so many of us that we relocated to the conference room and brought the TV in to view the shots. so much easier to get stuff done w/ a desk v. a couch!

All day long there is a ridiculous spread of food. After a (Catered) breakfast we have chips, cookies, crackers, candy, etc. til lunch. Then the spread comes back out with cheese an crackers, etc. so bad for overall eating. So delicious.

Gorgeous view of NYC from Queens! To the right is the Triborough bridge, and masked in snow/fog is Manhattan

On Monday - I left CT for a few more days in NY. Watch the Gap in New Haven to get the commuter rail back to the city.

Clearer view of NYC -- the bridge would be to the right, but it got cut off. This is the view from the studio!

1/31 - train at 6:20 a back to Boston. Somewhere between New Haven and New London there is a pot of gold! ha.

A place for everything

I've always been the messy one. Stuffed animals in a pile, books scattered on the floor, clothes everywhere, unmade bed. Once, my mom promised I could eat malted easter eggs while watching Muppets Take Manhattan - which was the perfect combo in my world - *IF* I cleaned my room. Really cleaned it - not shoving it all under the bed or in the closet.

The closet was really the worst offender. That nook could handle so much of my junk crammed into the corners and piled high.  Even as I got older, and the sweaters and shoes replaced toys and books and my closet has resembled something like the image below on and off for the past few years.

*Not my actual closet, but close to what it looked like *

The mess was getting the better of my sanity so I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to check out the organization tools that would work in my space.

I ended up with two new items:
Real Simple Shoe and Boot organizer
Brown Z Cart /Drawers

And weeded things out of my current stock:
Over the door shoe rack
Bookcase/bins for sports stuff (bike shoes, helmet, etc.)
Plastic bins (nail polish, health and beauty supplies, electronics)

And ended up with the cleanest closet I have ever had! I Love the Real Simple organizer -- only $20 and fits so much. I can't believe I have empty space! That might be my new go-to for organizational products.

365project

I can't remember how I found this site, but I'm hoping it will encourage me to take out my camera more often and find some cool shots. Missing a few days so I need to play catch up this weekend!

bowl - a - rama

This week was our quarterly team meeting, and in every quarter there is a team dinner/event. We've been to Dave and Busters, casino night, and Boston harbor boat cruises  but this time, we went to Kings  and had friendly bowling competitions. I never claimed to be a good bowler, but Tuesday night I reached a whole new level. In round 1, I bowled a 36. I had 18 points, got 3 gutterballs and found a way to break 30. The ball would go almost all the way down the lane, then veer left or right. It was hilarious, and my teammates were more amused than anything - likely because we were not playing for prizes or glory. hah! At least I got up to 71 in round 2, but I feel as though I have NEVER been this bad bowling before!  Hope Scott's up for some practice rounds!

Potato Gloves and Black Friday

I would like to thank this blog  for the constant amusement and the WS link below. I laughed out loud at the comments.

From the Haters Guide to Williams Sonoma Catalog:

Item #02-1496058 Potato Scrubbing Gloves
The Hater's Guide To The Williams-Sonoma Catalog
Williams-Sonoma says: "Scrub potatoes clean while preserving skin that's nutrient rich. Set of two."
Price: $11.95
Notes from Drew: I desperately wanted it to say "Set of one" at the end. But anyway, who WOULDN'T like to have special gloves for whenever you have to handle potatoes? Potatoes are dirty and smelly, so it behooves you to wear a pair of gloves that will absorb all that dirt and grime and then get soaked through. Be sure to let them dry on your radiator! I also like that these gloves come with the word POTATO labeled across each one. Late at night, I often go digging through my basement screaming, "WHERE ARE THE GODDAMN POTATO GLOVES?" Because I usually end up grabbing the carrot gloves first, you know?

[Williams Sonoma is a great store, but Drew's commentary is funny! ]

Oh Christmas tree

Scott and I picked out a tree yesterday for his parents living room. I've only experienced real tees since living in MA and this year Scott wanted to cut down a tree. Honestly - I felt bad cutting down a tree. I know that's what tree farms are for, and it's specific to the season and good for the tree farm to sell all those trees but, environmentally it felt wrong.

We went to Oak ridge in Middletown- which was pretty flat and had a good selection. We ended up with a great tree which is festively displayed for the season!

Snidbits

Some one I work with has a habit of mixing up her clichés, unknowingly, which our team loves to call her out on. My favorites include, "I'll get off my soapdish now"    [Up on a soap box]
and "You're skating on thin water"   [Skating on thin ice].  Sometimes we get to hear newly invented words, such as the time she mentioned there were "snidbits" of information we could use. [Snippets + Tidbits]. Hence my title, Snidbits.

Snidbits: Interesting snippets and tidbits I find on the internet, news, etc. Or things going on in my life to share.

Today's snidbits:

Empire State lights up to music

Nathan W. Pyle, specifically

Bruce.

Turkeys

Thanksgiving was pretty good this year. I missed the entire crew from the '11 turkey trot - but powered through with my dad and Scott. I'm wary of the timing though. My gps tracked me at 36 min for 3.49 miles not 3.1 but maybe I was slow? The timing matched my finish line time so who knows. I'm definitely doing a jingle bell 5k to get a new best time this fall.

After the trot we had breakfast and started to prep food for the day. On the menu:
Apps-
- zucchini boats
- cheese and crackers
- spinach dip

Dinner -
- turkey
- turnips
- mashed potatoes
- sweet potato soufflé
- corn (w cilantro, cumin and scallions)
- asparagus (w almonds and garlic)

Dessert-
Apple and pumpkin pie

Deeeeelish!

I'm thankful for the fabulous friends and family in my life and look forward to a festive holiday season complete with a broadway show and visit from Heather and Erik!

Welcome, Weekend!

This week has been non stop at work. So was last week, and the week before. I'm gearing up for some quality time off and can. not. wait! Thanks to the Turkey day Holiday, and a new vaca policy where I need to use up some time before I lose it, I have ALL next week off. WHOOOO HOO!

Anyway - to kick of the weekend, I did some cleaning at home last night. Kitchen, bathroom, living room and finally -- bedroom. My room was trashed with clothes I had almost worn, an overflowing hanger of scarves and random mail scattered around. I avoided it hardcore (see above: Cleaning the entire apartment first) and gave in around midnight. Two hours after I said I was going to go to bed. (Thanks Mom for instilling the Night Owl gene! )

Of course this was now the perfect time to clean out my wardrobe. I ended up with a bag of clothes to donate, which I gave to my roommate Sarah who can donate them at work,  Partners in Health .

Unfortunately - at some point in the evening (12:45a?) I stood up, gathering a bunch of clothes on the floor to put in a bag and smacked my head on the corner of the open sock drawer. I'm honestly surprised it did not start bleeding, and was quick to call it a night after that.

It is safe to say I need a few days off to relax and try not to hurt myself. T-minus 2 hours til the weekend officially begins with a pizza date w/Scott at Posto!
