enjoyable

I know this has been out a while, but I still like it. It makes me think of Queen/Freddie Mercury. I think he is even referenced in the lyrics.

Note to self

It is wise to stick to the rule of not discussing politics or religion with close friends. (I mean, debates are great, but it can cause unnecessary anger and frustration that gets in the way of an otherwise fine relationship)

Great line

At the DNC Hillary Clinton said, "It's only fitting that McCain and Bush are going to be side by side in the Twin Cities next week - because lately they are hard to tell apart."

Her speech was inspirational, and just made me hope that our country is smart enough to elect Obama, so we don't have "four more years of the last eight." -hillary clinton

What does Billy Joel have to do w/ my 27th bday??

Get in Shape Girl

Ok so - I was talking to Heather this weekend about laziness/flabbiness. I could probably stand to lose at least 10lbs. I see pictures of myself and think, ew - what happened?

Also - I have goals that I have not yet accomplished because I am a lazy butt. I signed up for a 5k in Sept. w/ my friend Lauren bc I need motivation to run. I need to sign up for a 10k bc I really want to just do it. Then - once I do a 10k, I can do a half marathon, and eventually a marathon. I knew I wanted to run a marathon in JANUARY. What have I been doing? Not training for one. Ugh.

How am I going to get motivated?

1. I signed up for a 'free' personal training session at WOW (WOW = work out world/ my gym). I have to go there on Thurs w/ 5 goals so the trainer can tell me how to get it done. (Then tell me that it will cost me millions of $ to continue working w/ him) *

2. Sign up for runs w/ friends and then force myself to train for it so I'm not embarassed. (9/14 could potentially be embarassing. Sometimes I think I should sleep in my sneakers so I will run in the morning.)

3. Promise my sister I will run the Disneyland Half Marathon in Aug. 09.

4. I joined a group called Twilight Throwers
http://twilightthrowers.110mb.com/About%20Us.html I threw Jav and disc in high school and actually miss it, so I'm excited to find a way back in, even if I just missed their 'season' and have to train alone all fall/winter.

5. I posted this on my blog so now I have to stick to it all so I can blog about it, and know that if I don't do it I will feel like a loser for not doing it now that I told everyone what I want to do.

If anyone else has any motivational tools or tips, please share.

Also - does anyone remember that "Get in Shape Girl" cassette tape?

*It is a promotional offer where obviously you sign up for one, fall in love w/ having someone kick your butt into shape and then wish you could afford a trainer.

Tricky

This weekend I saw a US Rugby game. (Union rugby maybe?) Rugby is fun to watch, but the entire time I watched, I was thinking of Australian Rules football and getting confused about the rules. Tricky. They are somewhat similar, but not the same. I think I prefer AFL, but found myself wondering why I don't pay more attention to Rugby, since it's the closest thing to AFL in the US. Or, why I don't try to go online and watch the team that made me fall in love with the game - the Dockers.**

HOT. And, a great player. (but no longer my fave australian.) Sadly - he is injured this year.
Now I'm all nostalgic and missing footy games.

**sorry Shannon - I can only root for the Crows if they aren't playing the Dockers.

dumb

so at 9:45 tonight, I thought - man I could go to bed right now. Umm, what time is it now? 12:10. What am I doing up? Oh reading emails, editing pictures I need to post online for the milford oyster fest website, and other random internet browsing. Seriously?? when I wake up tomorrow cranky and annoyed bc I'm tired, I will only have myself to blame. Who can I send a petition to for 3 day weekends all the time? I can't wait for labor day.

Unecessary rambling

Many times a week, I end up sitting on my desk chair with one foot under me. Then - it either hurts or I have to get up - and I think, damn, why did I do that? I knew cutting off the circulation would make my foot fall asleep. But I keep doing it. Every time I get up I have to think, "Self, don't sit on your foot anymore bc one day you're going to have to limp around the office and that would look ridiculous."

What is the point?

Of saying, "Long story short" after you have told the long story?

I'm hungry, stuck on a conf. call and can't wait for this work day to end.

Butterfingers

Darvis Patton and Tyson Gay misconnected on the final pass in preliminaries of the 400-meter relay Thursday. Then, Torri Edwards and Lauryn Williams did the same thing for the women's team.
[from http://www.nbcolympics.com/trackandfield/news/newsid=243415.html]

oh. my. god. the mens 4x100 relay team dropped the baton.

Come to find out... so did the women's team. What happened?? I feel bad for them, because I cannot imagine how much that must suck.

I was at a bar having a drink w/ a friend when the men's race was on TV. Literally 10 people around the TV all said (at the same time, when he dropped it..) Oh. My. God.

DMB will never be the same

Per Perezhilton.com:
The Dave Matthews Band's saxophonist LeRoi Moore has passed away. He was 46 years young. He was injured in an ATV accident in June, resulting in a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications. He passed away Tuesday in Los Angeles after more complications.

I haven't really been that into Dave Matthews Band in the past few years, but they were one of the first bands that I was truly crazy in love with. I think I saw them 10x's! I am sad for them.

so sad

Season opener of The Hills = similar to my senior year of college. (i.e: a certain new roommate and old friendships not meshing anymore.)
Sad that girls do this to each other, and that my life can be related to a "reality" show. Damn it. I knew I should have written a book about that.

i heart music

I liked Jason Mraz when he first came out and then completely forgot about him.
I love his new song though. (and isn't he sort of cute?)
update:
[I think I like the live version better:]

video

more notes:
I am a sucker for sappy songs. This song is sweet, or god awful considering where you are in life. If you are in a breakup, or single w/ no prospects - this song might suck to hear. If you are in 'like' where everything is fluttery feelings and sweet, then this song is probably on repeat. If you are happy in a relationship, maybe it makes you stop nitpicking on those little things you fight about and let the other person know you appreciate them and tell them how much you love them. Or, if you are single, with ridiculous/complicated, non-relationships and you just like the song, you probably posted it on your blog.

Ick

Milford Summer Tradition

This weekend I was in CT for the 34th Annual Milford Oyster Festival. I was asked to be one of the photographers of the event, since my mom was on the publicity committee. It is a very different experience to be attending the Oyster Fest vs. capturing it for the website. I saw so many fewer classmates, but partly believe this is because I just wasn't paying attention to who was around. Later in the day - when I already had hundreds of photos, I said hi to a few people, but it was minor compared to the high school reunion it used to be. Anyway - it started Friday night, which was rainy and gross. But Saturday was gorgeous and great. My fave part was the canoe/kayak race, and made me sort of annoyed at myself for not kayaking more this summer. At least there are some weekends left, and Sept. is still a good time to go. So, the photos will eventually be posted to the Milford Oyster Fest site (milfordoysterfest.org) and soon will be on the page I created of my own photos. I promise to put them up soon. In the meantime, look at some of my old pics. http://kimberlyemead.googlepages.com/home

Mr. Mom Reincarnated

This SERIOUSLY just took place at work near me:
Worker A and Worker B are talking about an upcoming meeting.
Worker A : "You said I can't come."
Worker B : "I said you don't have to come, but you can. You can come as a woobie."
Worker A : "As a what?"
Worker B : "As a support person.. ya know, a woobie."

For those of you who don't remember, in the movie, Mr. Mom (1983) one of the sons has a security blanket he calls a woobie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085970/quotes

Trying to get Kenny to give up his security blanket]
Jack Butler(Michael Keaton): I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great... and they are, they are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious.

Are the Olympics the new Superbowl?

There are some new and fabulous commercials. This might be my favorite one.

wow

Michael Phelps is an amazing athlete. So far in the '08 Olympics he has won 2 gold medals, and broken 2 World Records. (400m individual medley world record, and in the 4x100 freestyle relay - the U.S. finished first in 3 minutes 8.24 seconds.)

Good thing his coach noticed that he was Olympic material at age 11.

Not so Magnificent

Whoa Bela. What happened to your team?

Last night's women's gymnastics qualifiers were no where near the level of gymnast he used to train! I'm assuming it is Marta who is now head coach, but I wish Bela was still in charge. I thought she would keep the gymnasts at the same level he trained them at. . but maybe not.

I suppose there was some controversy that Bela Karolyi was too harsh as a coach, but his team used to win! In 1996, he had trained the Magnificent Seven, who were amazing gymnasts and performers. These new girls are not at the same level as Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Kerri Strug, Dominique Dawes or Kim Zmeskel.

Separated at birth?

Do you think Erik looks like Jack Johnson?

Morgan, you are out.

Morgan Hamm, gymnast and two-time Olympian, is out with an ankle injury. His brother, 2004 AA gold medalist, Paul Hamm, withdrew from the Olympic team only days before the U.S. men were scheduled to arrive in Beijing. Morgan has been struggling with an ankle injury since trials.

sad times for those boys.

Sleep Through the Static

Back again to the Comcast Center in Mansfield for another concert this week! Last night - Jack Johnson. I met Cherie and her bf Tom, and then Cara drove down to meet us too. The concert was fabulous, minus the opening band (Rogue Wave) who was howling and whining about god knows what.
I can't pick a favorite Jack Johnson song, but some faves played were : Bubble Toes, Banana Pancakes, Upside Down, Good People, Gone, All at Once, If I had eyes, Never Know, Breakdown.

cannot stand

When people:
1. talk with food in their mouth to the point that you can see it, or they are mumbling.
2. suck on hard candy. (or chew ice)
3. answer the phone while eating lunch at their desk - and continue to eat.

The noises of people eating seriously gross me out. I get the same icky feeling when I hear a choice list of words. (most of you know what they are)

Ziplining

It is safe to say I am mildly afraid of heights. This is why I am a terrible (fraidy cat) skiier. But, I did go ziplining on Saturday for part of Colleen's bachelorette weekend. It was SO MUCH FUN. I'd definitely go again.

This was the scariest part:

I love Counting Crows

Sara Bareilles opened

Adam Duritz

I went to the Counting Crows / Maroon 5 concert in Mansfield, MA last night. They switch which band closes each night, and last night it was Maroon 5. It worked out well bc I prefer CC, and left after a few Maroon 5 songs. They were good, but I was happy to miss the traffic!

Vote

Adam Duritz thinks you should too.
